Introducing . . . Jenny Redshaw!

By March 30, 2022Blog

Jenny originally is from a small farming community in Raymore, Saskatchewan. Jenny spent many days with her grandfather on his farm as his gofer and enjoyed every minute of it.

Jenny’s first job was cleaning the Cargill office in Cudworth, SK for her dad who was a Manager and advanced to entering grain tickets on the weekend during harvest time while in high school. After going to NAIT, Jenny’s first job was at the UGG Oat Plant in Edmonton. She has been in the industry ever since in different capacities even helping on a family farm during harvest in the Sedgwick area driving combine, truck, and most important job …the rum runner!

Jenny enjoys spending time with her two girls, binge watching Netflix and a good steak!!

Buyer Brief – by Sandra Correia-Letendre

Last week we saw the CP rail take on a strike. Thankfully for many, it lasted about a day and half. Buyers had a couple theories on how the strike would affect the market: 1) Barley prices would go up as Corn would not be able to come in or 2) the stop in exporting would force elevators to sell off grain inventory that started backing up. As the strike was short lived, we didn’t really see much effect on the market.

Regardless Barley prices have not seemed to come down. Demand has been moving to May/June. This week we are still seeing trades at approximately $438/mt Delivered Lethbridge for April/May. Currently, we are not seeing much higher bids for June. Corn prices continue to surpass Barley, with recent trades at $460/mt delivered Lethbridge for April/May. If buyers did not buy Corn to cover the season back in fall when prices were low, now is where they may have to re-consider moving to barley if they can manage it in their rations. For New Crop, the question will be will corn buyers continue to buy corn or will they go back to barley and how will this affect next harvest.

With all that’s going on in the world some sellers seem to be holding tight and not wanting to market all their grain yet. The reality is we are coming closer to seeding and these loads need to move before buyer demand is full. Buyers are already filling up for April-June. New crop is slowly hitting the market as buyers and sellers are reluctant to do much with new crop right now due to last year’s conditions.

Keep your eye out for the USDA report coming out tomorrow. From what we are hearing prices have already started adjusting based on this report.

Sellers Tip: If you are nervous about marketing your new crop due to last year’s crop conditions, think of only selling 10% to be on the safe side and capitalize on the current strong prices. Call us to discuss the best strategy for you, 1-888- 969-5552.
