Here at Agfinity we are always working to be innovative and efficient. We cultivate meaningful relationships through innovative systems, efficient processes, and transformative technology as we plow into the future of agriculture. We ask ourselves how we can facilitate a better grain trading experience for our customers as we find solutions to their grain marketing challenges. Whether you are selling or buying grain, it goes without saying that both sides are essential to the trade. One of the tools we have been rolling out since the beginning of September is Agfinity’s ability to purchase grain. We call these GPC’s (Grain Purchase Contracts) and GSC’s (Grain Sales Contracts).
This is another tool in our toolbox, meaning that we still do broker notes the same as before but now we offer the ability for the buyer to pay Agfinity directly for the grain and then we transfer the funds as quickly as possible to the seller. Payment terms are still aligned with whatever the buyer’s payment terms are with 3 days being added if the seller is set up to receive EFT’s (Electronic Fund Transfer) and an additional 6 days if the seller wants payment by cheque. Our process of predominantly posting farmer grain and getting multiple bids from buyers on that grain is still the cornerstone of how we do things. Focusing on being a major sourcing arm from the farm for feedlots, grain companies, and end users throughout western Canada.
Agfinity’s brokerage or margin remains the same regardless of the deal being a broker note or GPC/GSC. Our job is to connect the seller and the buyer and lock in any freight prices associated with the deal, meaning every deal is locked in when it’s created as a broker note or contract. On a GPC/GSC contract the seller and buyer will not be invoiced for brokerage, the buyer will only be invoiced for the grain.
Why did we add this tool, you may ask? It simplifies the process for both the buyer and seller and since we are collecting most of the data it seemed to us as the next logical step. We now take care of the freight costs on certain deals and can help assist with any issues that may arise on trades as well. Also, we are working to do everything we can to get away from mail, by using EFT’s as often as possible. We believe that this will expedite the payment process for all parties.
We are excited to introduce this new hybrid trading model to you and are open to any questions or feedback that you have for us. We are always trying to innovate and are always working to get it right, meaning that we may need to adjust and change things until we get it right, but we love the journey and process to get there. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We couldn’t do this without you.
Because Farming is Forever

Market Report – by Sandra Correia-Letendre
Coming onto Fall, harvest is in full effect across the prairies. Yields are still looking good. Regardless, Barley prices have been on the rise in the last couple weeks.
Demand for Barley is currently surpassing harvest pressure. Exports are down at this time compared other years. Feedlots are wanting to get covered for the near future before export demand goes up and there’s short supply for local needs. To our surprise we are still seeing bids for quick movement—the challenge for buyers has been finding trucking. Bids for Sept have been as high as $380/mt delivered Lethbridge for Sept/Oct movement. For those bidding out to Jan-March 2023, bids are going as high as $400 /mt delivered Lethbridge.
Wheat has been stable, both feed and graded. We have seen bids around $370-380/mt delivered Lethbridge for Sept/Oct for feed wheat. Graded wheat has been going up each day this week. Today we traded #1 CW HRS Wheat at approximately $400/mt FOB around the Edmonton Area.
Canola was steady but has been declining in the last week. “Seasonal harvest pressure and bearish technical signals contributed to the declines, with earlier gains triggering some selling…perhaps both on paper and in the cash market.”, as stated in PM Market Report today.
Seller’s tip: Freight is a struggle to get right now for buyers if sellers are wanting September movement. If sellers can deliver themselves in the next few weeks that would be a great advantage. Call us to discuss your marketing strategies 1-888-969-5552.
