The Agfinity Theme Song

   Toil, tears, sweat… Reset.
It’s farming in Canada, lest we forget.

Riding a tractor on a pleasant, warm day, sipping an endless supply of refreshment while watching the crop grow… These moments are few and far between for the average farmer.

We shared our experience with on-farm problem solving in the October newsletter: “Farmin’ ain’t easy… But somebody’s gotta do it.”  … We didn’t actually give it that  title, but in hindsight, it would have been perfect.

We know our customers face trial and tribulation nearly every day. Some days, it might be a broken fence, and a few cattle on the loose. Other days, a herd of elk – feasting on a grain bag they mistook for a nicely wrapped Christmas present.

When isolated, they are issues that can be dealt with. But, when forced to juggle multiple issues at the same time, suddenly, we have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind.

“What is our aim…? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs – Victory in spite of all terror. – Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.”  – Winston Churchill

This was our aim when we recorded The Agfinity Theme Song this harvest. We wrote lyrics a couple days before the shoot. We lost half our footage during the process. We even spent a small fortune on cowboy hats… Who knew a “7X” meant “pay-up Cowboy”!?

…Above everything, we took a risk. Singing in three-piece suits while dangling from silos could be perceived as reckless. Or at least a little obnoxious… Even so, and though we don’t sing for money, we knew we had to give you our best. And not just in this video, but every day we come to work! Suited-up or not…

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you: The Agfinity Theme Song:

Agfinity – WE ARE THERE!

Market Report
–
by Tracy Green

Barley: Warm weather has kept quick movement demand slow, but we have great opportunities for Jan-Feb as well as March through May. This is a great time to get a head start on the January new tax year rush.  Call us with offers!

WheatWe are still seeing lower protein gradable wheat coming to the feed market, but feed wheat prices are still holding with about a nickel carry per month into Lethbridge. We have a few great options for Jan-Feb and some quick movement opportunities are still available if you’re looking for movement before the new year. Call us and we can discuss options.

Oats: The oat market hasn’t looked very promising, but opportunities for trade into China are being considered. Chinese demand is rising but different tariffs have kept North American oats out of the market. Spring threshed oats filled feed buyers early this year keeping prices down. For good quality 2CW, we are seeing about a nickel carry per month into spring/summer.

Canola:  Strength in the Canadian dollar has made the canola market bearish currently. If the US hikes interest rates, this will pressure our dollar which will make canola more attractive to international buyers. January delivered bids hovering just over $11/bu.

Peas: Yellows: A little more promising on yellows lately as opportunities for quick movement have become available. Sales fill quickly and then prices drop back down.  We have delivered bids still at $6.68/bu with some movement for higher tonnage offers at $6.78-6.83/bu.  Greens:  Prices have held at $8.00-$8.08/bu delivered – flat through Jan-March.

The Feed Buyer Brief
–
Joseph Billett

Buyers and sellers alike are busy fattening themselves and the turkeys in preparation for Christmas.  Traders typically get a little sluggish this time of year, myself included.  Some feedlots are still looking to get coverage for January – February but those homes are few and far between. Most buyers are not in a panic to pay up for new year coverage yet.
Feeders are paying premiums for the March – May delivery period. As we see it, northern buyers have quite a bit of coverage for April – May which may force sellers to look south for homes in the new year.
Corn is trading into the Lethbridge market at $220MT, which will keep the cap on Barley and Wheat prices moving forward.  Would love to hear your thoughts on current markets!
