Because Farming is Forever
Today there are multiple hot-button topics that I could begin ranting about to get your blood and my blood pumping . . . election results, canola issues, pipelines . . . and the list goes on. I will skip those topics today and talk a bit about “why we are”. I know that sounds like an odd statement, but it is a real thing.
At Agfinity our moto, if you will, is Because Farming is Forever. It’s “why we are.” This year that Forever could be construed in a negative context. Its been wet and raining Forever. This harvest is taking Forever. To some it seems like they haven’t caught a break in Forever. To many these all add up to a negative feeling of Forever, especially while in the thick of it. However, at Agfinity our Forever has a brighter meaning.
In the early years of Agfinity we chatted about dropping the Because in our moto Because Farming is Forever. This really had no purpose other than to make the words fit better under our logo for the print shop. The discussion came back to the reason for that Because. We didn’t want our statement to be we are Agfinity and Farming is Forever. We wanted our statement to be we are Agfinity Because Farming is Forever. Because agriculture is Forever. Because you have been doing this for your lifetime and generations have been doing it for their lifetime’s before you and generations will be doing this for their lifetimes after you, Forever. We are here as Agfinity to help you Because of that Forever.
At Agfinity we understand that your Forever is a lifetime love and commitment to agriculture as a way of life. It may sound cliché, but as farmers you feed the world! That is something that is Forever. Everyone goes through struggles, trials and difficult times, but most rise above. At Agfinity we understand that there have been not just a few struggles in your past year and years. Because we work hard every day to harvest the best grain trading opportunities for our customers, let us help you make that struggle a little easier. Give us a call, send us a text or a shout out on social media or an email and let us help you find some great opportunities to trade your grain. After all, Because Farming is Forever, why not take advantage of opportunities to make that Forever a bit easier.
Because Farming is Forever

Congratulations Shara Lunn, runner up in our Harvest Photo Contest!
Market Report – by Nelson Neumann
Barley: The feed barley market has been trading sideways over the past few weeks. Delivered into feedlot alley prices have been hovering between $210 and $213/MT. Many buyers are bought completely up for October and still have grain that was contracted for September arriving due to harvest delays. Because of this they are looking for delivery into end of November or December. Most of the concern about barley not making it off the field has been alleviated but a lot of it came off tough. Buyers are seeing lots of high moisture barley and it is as important as ever to know the product that is being delivered.
Oats: Both feed and milling oats continue to hold their value. Despite poor weather during harvest season lots of the oats I am coming across are still making milling spec. Manitoba, a key oat producing region, faced a large snowstorm and is further behind both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Wheat: The feed wheat market is a tale of two different price ranges; one for dry feed wheat and another for tough. There is a large supply of high moisture wheat hitting the market testing 16-19% and the amount of homes who can take this is limited. In addition to a much lower base price there is still discounts to apply on top of it. If you have an option to dry it down that is most likely the best option. Inversely, the milling market has been slowly climbing in part due to so much of it grading feed. The durum market has been also firming up and the outlook appears bullish. See the futures for the past month courtesy of barchart.com below.
Canola : The canola market has come under slight pressure dropping about $2.50/MT due largely to a strengthening Canadian dollar. A re-elected Liberal government has lowered expectations of the Canadian economy and the dollar may drop accordingly and bolster Canola pricing. There is still canola in the field and unfortunately some reports of higher green counts.
Peas: India’s pulse crop is facing some weather concerns which is leading to the opening of some export opportunity for Canadian peas. Green pea pricing has seen some strength while yellows remain unchanged. There is quite a bit of peas that have been downgraded due to earth tag or hail damage. Reports estimating ~ 20% being a #3CW or feed.
Buyer Brief – by Joseph Billett
In agreement with Amy’s article because harvest is taking forever the buyers are having a difficult time managing their positions. To elaborate my point, they have all the grain they need bought for September and October but have only received 50-60% of that grain so far. The grain that they have received is higher moisture so its difficult to blend and needs to be fed or processed quickly before mold or clumping happens. We’ve seen an increase in picked up prices for barley and wheat mostly for quick movement and every day that demand seems to be diminishing as more grain comes off the field. When harvest is more complete the product that was bought for September and October will flood the market and depress demand. Buyers and sellers seem to be at odds right now between the sell and the buy price. Buyers are against the wall based what they already have bought and what price that previous purchase was at. The product that grain companies buy today could have been sold a couple of months ago and this purchase is to fill an open position. From what we’re seeing buyers are working to get coverage for November-December right now and are paying reasonable levels which could jam up the sellers that wait for harvest to be totally complete before putting on their marketing hat.
Seller’s Note: Many buyers have overbought and demand is only high until harvest is compete and orders are filled. Feed Grain prices are friendly and may remain flat.
